NOTES
LAST (SEASON) TIME OUT: The University of North Alabama men's golf team finished the year at fourth in the ASUN Championship — the best finish to date as a team for conference play. Senior
Xing Luo finished with a trip to the NCAA Regionals after his remarkable season where he was named to the Second Team All-ASUN as he collected four ASUN Golfer of the Week awards. There were two team tournament wins, three individual crowns secured and the highest ranking in school history, according to available records, at 78th in the nation.
THE BREAKDOWN: The organization, Golfweek, is hosting the tournament that will host 13 teams. This tournament starts the season off with three days of 18 holes each. The three days will follow a double tee time start. The course is a par 72 and spans 6,971 yards.
THE FIELD: Thirteen teams will participate in this tournament. Central Arkansas and Austin Peay slide in as the only two ASUN members to compete with North Alabama. Other teams include Tennessee Tech, Western Carolina, Ball State, Loyola-Chicago, Presbyterian, Mercer, Georgia Southern, USC Upstate, Nevada and East Texas A&M. UCA won the ASUN championship a season ago. UNA competed against USC Upstate, Austin Peay and Mercer during the 2024-25 season leaving the rest as new teams to see for this season.
TRANSCENDENT TRIO: The Lions return a heavy-upperclassmen team headlined by seniors
Xing Luo and
Sebastian Bengtsson as well as junior
Andrew Ferworn. The trio created the seven ASUN Golfer of the Week awards throughout last season — the most all-time in a single season for Division I. Luo and Ferworn each won an individual crown while Bengtsson
four top-10 finishes throughout the year. Luo made the NCAA Regionals — the first time a Lion golfer has made it during the Division I era. Both Luo and Bengtsson placed in the top-10 at the ASUN Championship, while Ferworn placed 11th to close the year as a team.
YOUNG GUNS: The starting lineup features the trio mentioned above; however two new guys get their first collegiate starts. True freshman
Jedd Brady and redshirt freshman
Walter Waineby both enter the starting lineup for the Lions. North Alabama has not had a golfer make his collegiate debut since 2023. Then junior, Ferworn, started at the Iowa Fall Classic where he finished ninth and led the Lions to a third-place finish. Brady hails from Australia and was one of the best amateurs in his country as he finished as the New South Wales (State) Junior Amateur Champion in 2024. Waineby, from Sweden, spent this past season perfecting his craft under The Schmitz Family Head Men's Golf Coach Austin Phillips to deliver the first ASUN Championship for the Men's team.
