NO. 22 AUM TENNIS EDGES UNA MEN 5-4

MONTGOMERY – Playing in its third consecutive match against a ranked opponent, the University of North Alabama men's tennis team came up one point short in a 5-4 loss at No. 22 Auburn-Montgomery on Friday. With the loss, the Lions fall to 1-5 on the season and 0-3 in Gulf South Conference play.

The Warhawks played impressive in doubles to take a 2-1 lead, then split the singles matches for a hard-fought win.

After UNA picked up a default victory at No. 6 singles, Jason Pimenta continued his impressive play for the Lions this season, winning the first set 6-0 and holding on to win the second set 7-5 at No. 2 to give UNA a short-lived 3-2 lead. AUM quickly tied the match with a win at No.4, then took a 4-3 lead with a three-set victory at the top spot.

The Lions once again tied the score at 4-4 as freshman Cade Reasons won 6-1, 6-7, 6-4 at No. 5 singles, setting up a winner-take-all singles match at No. 3 singles. The Warhawks were able to hold on with the 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 victory to clinch.

"I'm really proud of the guys," Bishop said. "They fought through a lot of distractions and almost came away with a win against a Top 25 team. It doesn't get any easier with Mississippi College coming to Florence on Sunday. They are playing as well as anyone right now."

Match time against the Choctaws is set for 10 a.m. at the UNA Tennis Complex.
