LIPSCOMB DOWNS UNA SOFTBALL TO WIN SERIES

NASHVILLE, Tenn., – Lipscomb hit three home runs on the day and took control with a nine-run second inning during a 13-2 mercy-rule victory over North Alabama Sunday afternoon in ASUN Conference softball action. The win gives the Bisons the 2-1 series victory while UNA falls to 18-16 overall and 4-8 in conference play.
 
Lipscomb (29-13-1 overall, 8-4 ASUN) broke open a scoreless game by sending 12 batters to the plate in the bottom of the second inning, which was highlighted by a grand slam and another three-run homer. The Bisons added another two-run shot in the fourth inning to finish the game with 13 runs off seven hits.
 
UNA scored twice in the top of the third inning, opening the frame with four consecutive hits to chase Lipscomb starter Chloe Yeager from the circle. Madison Daniel and Meleah Hargett each singled to reach base before RBI-singles by Veronica Westfall and Alex Brown briefly made the score 9-2.
 
The Bisons, however, brought in Mandy Jordan to finish the game in the circle and UNA would not score again. A four-run fourth inning gave Lipsomb the 13-2 lead and evoked the mercy rule.
 
Westfall finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Michelle Moore took the pitching loss to fall to 2-3 on the season.
 
UNA will play a trio of ASUN games at Kennesaw State next weekend. The two teams are scheduled to play a double-header beginning Saturday at noon (Central) before wrapping the series with a single game at the same time the following day.
