OWENS CROSS ROADS, Ala. (April 15, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's golf team wrapped up the 2024-25 season in Huntsville on Tuesday, completing the 2025 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship with an eighth-place finish at RTJ Hampton Cove.
UNA outlasted Queens, Jacksonville, West Georgia and Bellarmine on the final day, leading ninth place Queens by six strokes.
Today marked perhaps the final round of collegiate golf for seniors Hannah Dees and Jahnavi Prakhya, who both finished with winning records this season. Prakhya entered with a 76.3 stroke average over 27 rounds and placed 16th in the ASUN Championship at 13-over. Dees entered with a 75.8 scoring average over 27 rounds and finished 38th in the ASUN Championship at 24-over.
Prakhya started her final round on fire, recording four birdies on the first five holes. She finished her first nine holes at four-under before making the turn and finishing one-over for the final round. She had the seventh-most birdies in the tournament with nine.
Meanwhile, the future is bright with a handful of underclassmen, including a pair of true freshmen that competed in their first ASUN Championship — Sirichaya Chanpen and Elsa Maren Steinarsdottir.
Chanpen's postseason debut was solid, as she placed 23rd with a 16-over. She finished the tournament with 10 birdies — tied for the third-most in the field. Redshirt sophomore Kerigan Klauber finished 31st, which is 20 spots better than her ASUN tournament debut last season. Steinarsdottir rounded out the lineup at 36-over, ending with a birdie on 18.
FGCU and Stetson went to a playoff to decide the ASUN Championship, tied at 41-over. FGCU won the playoff to secure its first women's golf title in school history. Austin Peay finished third at 45-over, followed by Lipscomb at 46-over, EKU at 58-over, Central Arkansas at 64-over and North Florida in seventh at 66-over.
FGCU's Lousiane Gauthier won with an even-par for the tournament, winning by four strokes. Prakhya was just 13 strokes off the winning score with the fourth-best round of the day, moving 15 spots up the leaderboard.
UNA finishes the season with a 61-50-1 record, including pair of top three finishes. The Lions are currently ranked No. 154 of 281 teams in the Clipped Scoreboard rankings.
