LAWRENCE, Kan. (August 24, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's golf team began the 2025-26 season on Sunday at the University of Kansas, sitting in seventh place over the first two rounds at The Jayhawk Club in Lawrence, Kan.
Competing in a field of 10 teams at a difficult course, UNA shot 60-over-par 636 in the first two rounds to sit three strokes ahead of Northern Iowa in seventh place. The Lions also have a healthy lead over Alabama State and Eastern Illinois.
Louisiana-Monroe leads the pack at 11-over, followed by Kansas who is three strokes back. A 23 stroke gap separates silver from bronze heading into the final round on Monday, as Wichita State sits in third. UT Arlington is one stroke behind the Shockers at 38-over, followed by Longwood and Creighton. UNA is just seven strokes back of Creighton.
Redshirt junior Kerigan Klauber is the clubhouse leader for the Lions through two rounds in Lawrence, shooting back-to-back rounds of 79 to sit in a tie for 27th place at 14-over. Another trio of Lions are not far behind as junior transfer Ava Schwartz is 16-over in a tie for 33rd. Schwartz had the lowest second round of the group with a 77.
Sophomores Olivia Whittle and Sirichaya Chanpen are 17-over and 18-over after two rounds to sit within the top-40 golfers.
True freshman Lisa Palmgren made her collegiate debut on Sunday, shooting a 78 in the first round for a six-over score. She parred 14 holes in the opening frame.
The Lions finished with 14 birdies led by Klauber with five. Four of her five came in the second round. In both rounds, Klauber birdied the seventh hole. She also birdied a pair of par-threes on holes 8 and 11.
UNA begins the final round tomorrow at 8 a.m. on holes 7-10. The Lions will pair up with Northern Iowa and Alabama State
