THE LINEUP: The Lions lineup includes three returning players and two newcomers. The veteran of the group is redshirt junior
Kerigan Klauber, who enters her fourth season with the program. Klauber led all UNA players last fall with a 75.1 stroke average. Rising sophomores
Sirichaya Chanpen and
Olivia Whittle will also be in the opening day lineup, as Chanpen posted a 76.1 average last fall led all returners with a 78.0 average last spring. True freshman
Lisa Palmgren will make her collegiate debut this weekend, while junior transfer
Ava Schwartz competes in purple for the first time after spending the last two seasons at UAB.
THE FIELD: Ten schools will compete in UNA's season opener, which will be hosted by the University of Kansas. The Lions will join the Jayhawks, Creighton, Wichita State, Alabama State, Eastern Illinois, Longwood, Northern Iowa, Louisiana-Monroe and UT Arlington — who is slated to become a conference opponent in 2026 with the future move to the United Athletic Conference.
THE COURSE: The Jayhawk Club opened in 1968 and has since grown to a 36-hole course. The current clubhouse was renovated in 2017 and the 18-hole championship course was added in May of 2019 and has hosted several championship events. The course is a par-72 that spans 6,337 yards.
ORDER OF EVENTS: UNA's practice round begins Saturday at 12:30 p.m. The 54-hole tournament will begin with two rounds on Sunday and a final round on Monday. Both days will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. A total of 60 individuals will compete in the tournament.
NEW YEAR, NEW STATES: Since the program began in 2018, the women's golf team has visited 10 different states. Kansas will mark the 11th on that list and will be one of the longest trips in program history at 645 miles. Next month, the Lions will pick up a 12th state with a trip to Columbia, Missouri.
EARLY BIRDIES: The Jayhawk Invitational marks the earliest UNA has ever started a season. The previous early start came last season on August 26 at the Tiger Classic hosted by Clemson. Kansas and Clemson are the only two August tournaments that UNA has played in.
CHASING GREATNESS: UNA is on the hunt for its first team win in program history. Last season, the Lions nearly achieved that with a runner-up finish in the Huntsville.org Intercollegiate. UNA has finished runner-up three times in program history with the other two coming in 2023. The UNA's best team finish in a season opener is sixth place in both 2019 and 2023.
