UNA COMPLETES SOFTBALL SWEEP WITH 11-5 WIN AT EKU

RICHMOND, Ky., – Emma Broadfoot was 3-for-4 with five RBI to lead the University of North Alabama softball team to an 11-4 win at Eastern Kentucky on Friday. The victory capped a three-game ASUN Conference sweep for the Lions, who close the regular season with a 36-13 record.

UNA's conference record improves to 15-9 and the Lions will await their official seeding for the upcoming ASUN Tournament that begins next week.

On Friday, UNA overcame an early deficit for the third consecutive game against the Colonels. After the home team plated two runs each in the bottom of the first two innings to take a 4-0 lead, the Lions erupted for 11 unanswered runs.

Haven Kirby opened the scoring for UNA by leading off the top of the third inning with a solo home run. A three-run fourth inning for the Lions then tied the game. After a leadoff double by Georgia Land, pinch-runner Mary Grayson Kilpatrick scored on Harley Stokes' RBI-single to cut the lead in half. Broadfoot then tied the game at 4-4 with a two-run home run to left center.

UNA took the lead for good with four runs in the top of the fifth. The Lions quickly loaded the bases with one out before a single through the left side by Broadfoot drove in the go-ahead run. Meleah Hargett followed with a two-run single down the right line to make the score 7-4. Another RBI-single by Kirby made the score 8-4 before EKU turned a double play to get out of the inning.

North Alabama wrapped up the scoring on the day with a two-run double by Broadfoot in the top of the sixth inning and a solo home run by Hargett to lead off the seventh.

Three different pitchers saw action in the circle for UNA. Sophie Golliver got the win in relief after working 4.2 scoreless innings. She scattered four hits and recorded a strikeout to improve to 7-3 on the year.

For the game, the Lions totaled 12 hits. Aside from Broadfoot's big day, Harley Stokes and Lexie Harper each went 2-for-3 at the plate. Kirby and Hargett also each posted 2-for-4 showings.
