Women’s Tennis leaves with most wins at MTSU Hidden Duals

Lions finish Tennessee outing with team-high 22 wins

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (October 28, 2024) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team wrapped up its third outing of the Fall 2024 season, taking home 22 wins from the MTSU Hidden Duals this weekend in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

The Lions faced the Blue Raiders, along with Atlantic Sun Conference member EKU and Western Kentucky in Tennessee. UNA and MTSU dominated the outing, but it was North Alabama who left as the top participant with 22 total wins.

Eight players finished with a win, with three finishing with at least five total. Junior Eeva Ristola won six matches to lead the Lions, followed by senior Anoek Pruijmboom and junior Stanislava Bobrovnikova with five apiece. Ristola, Pruijmboom and Bobrovnikova secured a team-leading three doubles wins, while sophomore Mathilde Delaney and Ristola led with three single victories.

Day one began with doubles competition exclusively, beginning with seven doubles wins. Bobrovnikova and Pruijmboom started with a 6-2 win over MTSU's Eloise Swarbrick and Lena Peyer, and Ristola and junior Senem Ocal followed with a 6-2 triumph over the Blue Raiders' Karen Yibirin and Rutuja Chaphalkar.

Bobrovnikova and Pruijmboom secured a second doubles win in a 6-2 victory over EKU's Masha Fedenko and Anastaiia Cherniakova. Sophomore Ada Karabacak and Delaney nabbed their first win in a 6-1 triumph over the Colonels' Sascha Parkhomenko and Marilou Cote. The final EKU win came over Izem Elif Olcer and Zhansaya Bakytzhan, with Ristola and sophomore Emma Ansorge winning 6-1.

In two doubles matches over Western Kentucky, Bobrovnikova and Ristola claimed the lone win in a 6-2 win over Mariana Zeganda and Emily Schut. The final doubles match came in Pruijmboom and Ansorge's 6-0 triumph over Mariia Triska and Jacey Wilson of EKU.

Beginning in singles play, UNA split three matches with the Blue Raiders. Ristola claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win over Eloise Swarbrick, and Delaney followed with a competitive, 6-3, 2-6, 10-6 win over Rutuja Chaphalkar. The final win over MTSU came from Ocal, beating Karen Yibirin, 6-1, 6-0.

Also on the day, Pruijmboom and Parrish picked up singles wins over EKU. Pruijmboom defeated Triska, 6-2, 6-0, and Parrish gained a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Wilson.

The second day of singles matches came in strong effort against Western Kentucky, sweeping all five matches in two sets. Ansorge began with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over the Hilltoppers' Mariana Zegada, and Bobrovnikova won her second singles match in a 6-3, 6-0 win over WKU's Sunskrithi Damera.

Karabacak defeated Western Kentucky's Emily Schut, 6-1, 6-2, and Ristola continued her winning ways with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Elizabeth Sobieski, 6-2, 6-1. Delaney capped the final win over the Hilltopper's Carolina Chiatti, 7-6, 6-2.

In team singles versus EKU, North Alabama wrapped up the weekend taking five of six matches against the Colonels. Pruijmboom claimed a second win with a 6-2, 6-1, victory over Triska, with Delaney also winning over Bakytzhan, 6-2, 6-0. Ristola capped the weekend with her third win, taking a 6-2, 6-3 win over Cote.

The final two wins came from the tandem of Bobrovnikova and Karabacak, starting with Karabacak's 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Cherniakova. Bobrovnikova concluded the weekend with a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Fedenko of EKU.

North Alabama Women's Tennis is back in action for the ITA Conference Masters Championships from Nov. 7-10, traveling to San Diego, Calif. for the four-day tournament.
