Women’s tennis announces schedule change

Lions now set to face Troy Thursday, Feb. 15 at 1:30

FLORENCE, Ala. (February 14, 2024) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis program announced a schedule change for their home dual against Troy, with the Lions and Trojans now scheduled to play on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 1:30 p.m.

The original match date of Friday, Feb. 16 was moved up a day due to expected weather.

The dual will take place at the UNA Tennis Courts on Hermitage Drive. Live stats and video will be provided, along with final results to be posted on RoarLions.com.

North Alabama looks to get back in the win column against Troy after falling on the road to UAB on Tuesday, 6-1.

SCOUTING THE LIONS: North Alabama has a 2-2 record this spring after its recent outing on the road in Birmingham. The Lions have been a threat in doubles with a 6-3 combined record through four duals. The team of freshman Ada Karabacak and senior Kalais Going are unbeaten in doubles so far, while Karabacak, senior Marta Torres, sophomore Stanislava Bobrovnikova and freshman Emma Ansorge all have two singles win on the year.

SCOUTING THE TROJANS: Troy is undefeated on the season with a 4-0 record, looking to keep their momentum going against the Lions. The Trojans are led in singles by Gabrielle Leslie with a 12-4 record and doubles by Valeria Avdeeva and Maria Guirguis with nine wins each. The head coach of Troy is Rawia Elsisi in her 13th season.

SERIES HISTORY: North Alabama and Troy have played four times since UNA's move to Division I, with the Trojans undefeated in those contests. UNA's last win against Troy came during the 1990 season, when the Lions won 9-0 while members of Division II.

FALL RECAP: UNA Women's Tennis ended the fall portion of the season with 78 wins in four outings. This includes 17 wins in the final meet at Southern Miss, led by Karabacak with six wins and a singles flight victory. She and Kalais Going won their doubles flight, as well.
