Billy Don Anderson, a native of Athens, Ala., was a three-year letterman in football for the Lions from 1959-61.  Playing under coach Hal Self, he was selected as a permanent team captain as a senior guard.  He was named to the 50th Anniversary UNA Football Team for 1949-98.

He was named to the Times Daily's First Forty Years UNA football team and was selected as the team's Most Valuable Lineman in 1960 and was an All-Alabama Collegiate Conference selection in 1960 and 1961.  Started three seasons at guard.  In 1966 he led the way for the creation of the Sportsman's Club, which continues to serve as the school's  athletic booster organization, and served as the organization's first president. 

A 1962 graduate of UNA with a B.S. degree in Accounting and Economics, Anderson served as President of Union Planters Bank.  He has also served as a member of the UNA Board of Trustees from 1979 to 2012.
