Michael Edwards is by far the leading pass receiver in UNA football history, with almost 1,000 yards more than any other pass catcher in school history. A four-year starter for the Lions from 1993-96, he has 151 career catches for 2,844 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Those accomplishments are even more remarkable because they were set playing on teams that rarely threw the football and ranked among the national leaders in rushing. His 955 yards receiving in 1994 is also a school single-season record. He  was UNA’s top receiver in 1994, 1995 and 1996. His eight career 100-yard receiving games is the most in school history and his four 100-yard receiving games in 1994 ties a school record. Against North Dakota in the semifinals of the 1994 playoffs, he returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and finished the day with five catches for 119 yards and another score.

The West Point, Miss., native was selected as a permanent team captain in 1996. A first-team All-Gulf South Conference pick in 1994 and a first-team Daktronics All-South Region pick in 1996, Edwards was selected for the UNA Team of the Decade for 1989-98, named to the UNA 50th Anniversary Football Team for 1949-98 and was chosen for the GSC Team of the Decade for the 1990s.

At the time of his induction, Edwards was employed as a Sergeant with the Starkville, Miss., Police Department.

He graduated from UNA in 1997 with a degree in Criminal Justice and has worked in law enforcement for almost two decades.
