Jason Vaughn, a native of Decatur, Ala., was a four-year letterman on UNA golf teams from 2000-03 and was a two-time All-American selection.
Vaughn helped lead the Lions to three NCAA Division II National Tournament appearances and finished as the individual runner-up in the 2002 championships. He earned All-Gulf South Conference honors in 2002 and All-South Region honors in 2003. He earned second-team Amm-American honors in 2002 and a third-team spot in 2003.
Vaughn finished in the top twenty in all three of his NCAA Tournament appearances. He tied for 20th as a freshman in 2000, was runner-up in 2002 and finished 19th in 2003.
He was chosen as UNA’s Male Student-Athlete of the Year in 2002.
Vaughn has earned two degrees from UNA, with a Bachelor’s degree in Fitness Management and a Master’s degree in Exercise Science. He is also a graduate of the PGA of America Management Program. He worked for four years as Assistant Golf Professional at the Robert Trent Jones of the Shoals courses and then two years as Head Golf Professional at RTJ. He is also director of instruction and owner of Vaughn Golf Academy. He was hired as UNA’s head golf coach in 2013 and led the Lions to their first appearance in the Division II National Championship Tournament since 2009.
